Your cooling system plays a fundamental part in your vehicle’s performance. Without it your engine would overheat and some parts might even begin to melt. The cooling system helps keep your engine cool.

Did you know that overheating is the most common cause of mechanical breakdowns on Sydney roads? By overheating your car you can cause severe damage to the engine and the automatic transmission? Maintaining your vehicle’s radiator, fluids and cooling system is essential to keeping your car on the road.

At Robert St Automotive we are cooling system experts. When it comes to your radiator, or any other part of your vehicles cooling system, our experienced technicians can diagnose and repair any problem that might be causing your vehicle to over heat.

 Antifreeze / Coolant

Antifreeze is a fluid that is added to a radiator because it has anti-boil and anti-corrosive properties. It does more than just keep things from freezing. It flows through your radiator and engine and helps keep everything working at the right temperature.

We recommend changing your antifreeze every 12 months. This is often called a radiator flush. During this procedure, our technicians will also check your water hoses and radiator, for leaks and cracks.

Check your cars owner manual to see the recommended interval for changing the coolant in your vehicle. If you are not sure then talk to us next time you have your car serviced. Or, simply give us a call or drop by our workshop. If you have any of the following symptoms give us a call:

  • Your vehicle has recently overheated
  • Your coolant or temperature light comes on
  • Your temperature gauge reads higher or lower than normal
  • Your heater does not work

 Cooling Fan

A cooling fan circulates air through the radiator so that it can release engine heat into the surrounding air. The fans can be mechanical or electric, if the cooling fan malfunctions, your engine can quickly overheat. Our Technicians will inspect your cooling fan and make sure the drive belt, or fan belt that makes it turn, is not loose or cracked. We can also repair and replace damaged fans.

 Radiator Cap

A radiator cap should be inspected at least once a year. If a cap is taken off while the engine is still hot it could result in severe burns from the spray of boiling coolant

 Coolant Reservoir

The coolant reservoir indicates the level of coolant in the system. At Robert St Automotive we check this during every oil change or Log Book service.

The thermostat is a valve that regulates the flow of coolant based on coolant temperature. A poorly performing thermostat can result in overheating, engine knocking, poor fuel economy and more. Robert St Automotive will check your thermostat during an inspection of your cooling system.
